The MSU-System’s Rawaten Cultural Extravaganza, held at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila on October 6, 2023, was featured in the Lifestyle Weekly of the Metro Cagayan de Oro Times, the city’s prestigious and leading newspaper. The issue was released today, in Volume 10, Number 101.
The Rawaten Cultural Extravaganza showcased the rich culture and heritage of the indigenous people in the Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan (MINSUPALA) regions through their traditional dances, music, and songs. The theme of the event was “From the Sky to the Sea,” as it highlighted the importance of water in the deep-rooted connection of the communities of these indigenous people. Under the direction of Tom Russ, the extraordinary performances of the 150 performers from the different campuses of MSU brought the guests and audience to the realm of the vivacious and symphonic ethno-linguistic communities.
The cultural extravaganza was sponsored by different agencies and organizations, such as the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCAA), the Bangsamoro Commission for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage (BCPCH), the Federation of Women Royalty of Lanao Incorporated, the University of the Philippines (UP), the UP Asian Center, the Office of Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong, the Province of Lanao del Sur, the O.B. Montessori Center, the Office of MP Diamila D. Ramos, the Office of MP Marjanie S. Macasalong, and the MSU Alumni Association.
The event was also part of the 10-point Agenda of MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, particularly in promoting MSU System as a national peace university and in serving as a beacon for the preservation of cultural heritage.
