College of Business Administration and Accountancy

Management Department

MSU Main Campus - Marawi City > Management Department

Brief History

The Management Department of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy offers a four-year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Management. The creation of the Department is an initiative of then CBAA Dean Prof. Marlene Hofer-Tamano, now known as the mother of the Management department. After her return from Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt in a study for the degree of Masters in Management in Cairo University, she realized that Management as a vital course is lacking in the college, hence the initiative. Although Management subjects are already part of the curriculum of other courses in the college such as Economics, Marketing, and Accounting (now Accountancy), the former believes that Management should be established as a distinct department.

Among the four departments in the college, the Management Department was founded last. Prof. Tamano herself became the first chairperson of the department and was assisted by eight members of the faculty including two lecturers. The department had hire only two new instructors because faculties handling Management courses automatically became members of the faculty. the department produced its first batch of graduates on April 3, 1989 with a number of six graduates.

So modest was the early years of the department that it had to share its office with the economics department, and had to hold major classes in other colleges such as the/ CSPEAR and COE. Presently, the department has grown into the highest producer of graduates in college and has been involved with big events in the university.

With the mandate of the university to offer enhanced degree program, the Management Department had shift to its new curriculum which started in the academic year 2018-2019, the Human Resource Management Curriculum. The department offered the new course which is Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Human Resource Management (BSBA – HRM) and produced its first batch of graduates in the year 2022.
