The opening of Kasugay 2025: Rise of the Regions at the MSU Grandstand on February 1st featured a vibrant Zumba session and an exciting Fun Run. Students from all MINSUPALA regions participated, demonstrating widespread support for the event. University officials, campus leaders, and league directors were also in attendance.
MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, represented by Vice President for Research and Extension Dr. Glen Lorenzo, emphasized the importance of health and well-being, delivering a key message centered on the Japanese concept of ikigai—finding purpose and meaning in life. He encouraged participants to fully embrace the diverse sporting and cultural competitions of Kasugay 2025.
Mr. Rhom Armel Frias, representing Senator Sonny Angara, conveyed the Senator’s continued support for student-led initiatives and youth development programs, highlighting Kasugay’s role in fostering teamwork, camaraderie, and friendship.
The celebratory atmosphere continued with the Fun Run awards, honoring Rohayla Lucman, Rhea Mae Dagapioso, and Dawn Mary Jarkon Francisco (women’s top three) and Alnahar Deca, Raffy Palacios, and Abdulrahman Maute (men’s top three). The top 50 runners received shirts, while the top three in each category received medals and cash prizes. The event culminated in the unveiling of regional banners and the lighting of the ceremonial urn, a powerful symbol of unity and the spirit of competition.
The commencement of Kasugay 2025 marks the beginning of sporting and cultural competitions where participants showcase their skills, teamwork, and the distinct cultural heritage of their regions, competing to represent their unique identities.
