The FFI – MSU Ceramics Development Center was organized & established during the Acting Presidency of the late Governor ALI DIMAPORO under the support of the Filipinas Foundation Inc. (FFI). However, for decades, the FFI has never supported the Center. From then on, its mandate on ceramics and pottery production has gradually diminished despite its available workforce. Henceforth, the renaming of FFI Ceramics was proposed by the newly appointed Director of the Center, Engr. Acsara A. Gumal to MSU Ceramics Development Center was approved during the APC meeting on September 13, 2018.
Former President Dr. Habib Watamama Macaayong revived the functions and mandate of the Center. Along with his designation as Director of the Center on August 21, 2018, Engr. Acsara A. Gumal, Ph.D., has been given the same responsibility to revive the Center’s function.
And with the continued support of the current MSU System President, Atty. Basari Dimakuta Mapupuno, the Center hopes to reach greater heights and becomes the Center of the Ceramics Industry in the region.

The MSU-CDC proudly announces its outreach initiative, welcoming all to join our extension services. On August 17th, we extend a warm invitation to the LANAO DEAF COMMUNITY of Lanao Del Sur Province. We aim to impart valuable knowledge on product creation, featuring slip casting techniques, body forming through slabbing/coiling, and the art of painting and carving intricate designs. We aspire to bridge creativity and community through this endeavor, fostering skills and connections. Join us as we share our expertise, building a vibrant artistic expression and growth platform. Together, let us shape a brighter future through the art of pottery.
Since 2021, the MSU-CDC has, for the first time since its creation, introduced the creation of black Pottery, a unique product achieved through meticulous smoking processes. This technique allows carbon to permeate the Pottery’s upper layer, creating its distinctive ebony shade. The transformation, driven by the FeO3 + C = Fe3C + CO conversion, lends the Pottery its alluring darkness. The success of this innovation owes itself to the unwavering dedication of the MSU-CDC workforce, whose commitment has brought this exceptional product to life.
The formulation of the products of the ceramic development center is 100 per cent eco-friendly and made of local materials. It is formulated from Clay, RHA (Rice husk Ash), and Quarry sand.
