Mindanao State University (MSU)-Main Campus conducted a two-day workshop on Basic Budgeting for MSU Income Generating Project (IGP) Units at the CHTM Pavilion. With the theme, “Uncovering the Potentials of Budgeting,” the event aimed to empower IGP units with the knowledge and skills for sustainable financial management. The first day, which was held on February 25, 2025, focused on understanding the core principles of financial planning.
The workshop commenced with a formal opening program, featuring an invocation, the Philippine National Anthem, and the Bangsamoro Hymn. Dr. Imara C. Andam, CPA, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of strategic budgeting for the university’s growth. The Dean of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), Prof. Sahraman D. Hadji Latif, MS, ME, was represented by College Secretary Oliver U. Limato Jr., who conveyed the Dean’s message highlighting the critical role of effective budgeting in supporting the university’s IGP initiatives. Prof. Johara M. Marandacan, CPA, then provided a clear overview of the workshop’s objectives and agenda.
The day’s program shifted to a series of insightful lectures, beginning with Majdi D. Jalal, CPA, who tackled the “Why of Budgeting.” His presentation underscored the importance of budgeting as a tool for financial stability, accountability, and strategic decision-making.Following this, Prof. Alcasar P. Maongco, CPA, REB, built upon the theoretical framework by delving into “The How of Budgeting.” Prof. Maongco provided practical guidance on developing and implementing effective budgets, covering essential techniques and best practices. Dr. Aldrich June B. Caraecle, REB, REA, gave a lecture on “Growing Your Income Generating Project,” where he shared valuable strategies and insights on how to maximize IGPs, with a focus on sustainable growth and revenue generation.
The day culminated in a dynamic workshop, where participants engaged in hands-on activities designed to apply the knowledge gained throughout the lectures. The workshop focused on IGP’s SWOT Analysis where participants analyzed the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats facing their respective IGP units; IGP’s Financial Goal Setting; and IGP’s Plans and Strategies. The MSU community anticipates the continued success of this vital workshop, which aims to strengthen the university’s IGP units and contribute to its overall financial sustainability.
