LOOK: Empowering Future Mental Health Advocates!

Last Saturday, February 8, 2025, we, the Mental Health Advocates’ Club, successfully completed a whole-day Psychological First Aid and Peer Listening Session Training! This transformative session was made possible through the invaluable guidance of our dedicated trainers—Prof. Abduljalil M. Macabago, Prof. Naseha M. Omar, and Ma’am Raijana Esmail from Panginam Healing and Wellness Center, PHWC.

This training not only equipped us with essential skills in providing psychological support but also served as a training of future trainers for our upcoming club endeavors. We are beyond grateful for this opportunity and excited to apply what we’ve learned to foster a more supportive and resilient community.

Industrial nursing is an essential aspect of workplace health and safety, particularly in industries like the National Power Corporation (NPC) in Agus 2, where operational demands often require their employees to work in physically demanding or hazardous environments.
The orientation program for the graduating students of the College of Health Sciences is crucial to ensure that they are well-prepared to handle the unique health challenges that may arise within such settings. After seven (7) long years of hiatus because of Marawi Siege, the industrial nursing exposure is finally back to equip the nursing students with the knowledge and skills required to efficiently and effectively provide healthcare services in industrial settings. Assessment of employees’ health is critical in industries like NPC, where workers may be exposed to environmental toxins, stress, and fatigue. The orientation process emphasizes the need for consistent health surveillance, including tracking exposure to harmful substances and ensuring compliance with occupational health regulations.
Atty. Gamal Sr. Ali, the Plant Manager of National Power Corporation gave a thorough walkthrough of the NPC facilities, including power plants, maintenance areas, and offices. This heartwarming gesture will allow the nursing students to familiarize themselves with the physical environment and potential health hazards to effectively mitigate workplace injuries and illnesses, leading to a healthier NPC.
Ma’am Roqiyah Langco, the designated Senior Nurse of NPC introduced the medication dispensing management systems used within NPC, proper documentation of employee health records, managing treatment protocols, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals when needed.
In closing, through this orientation program, student nurses will not only be equipped to respond to emergencies but also to actively promote the overall health and well-being of the employees, ensuring a healthier and safer workplace while they are having their industrial nursing exposure this second semester.
