About The College

The Mindanao State University Board of Regents (BOR) officially established the College of Forestry (now the college of Forestry and Environmental Studies, or CFES, since 1998) on 10 July 1969. This was marked by appointment of Forester Segundo P. Fernandez as the director of the college, with an academic rank of associate pfofessor. The College of Forestry and Environmental Studies consists of four (3) departments namely the Department of Environmental Studies, the Department of Forestry, and the Department of Graduate Studies. With the prevailing low literacy rate of the youth of some parts of Mindanao and the emergence of ideologies confronting, the College of Forestry and Environmental Studies takes the lead in producing competitive and effective Foresters who can transform Environment/Society. CFES composed of 22 Faculties and 24 Administrative Support Staff - MSU Main Campus - Marawi City.

Vision

MSU System aspires to be a center of excellence in instruction, research and extension transforming itself into a premier and globally competitive national peace university.

Mission

1.) Lead in social transformation through peace education and integration of the Muslims and other cultural minority groups into the mainstream society. 2.) Ensure excellence in instruction, research development, innovation, extension, and environmental education and discovery. 3.) Advance national and international linkages through collaboration; and 4.) Demonstrate greater excellence, relevance, and inclusiveness for Mindanao and the Filipino nation.

College Goals

1.) to become an institution with a strong and visible reputation in academic excellence, both in undergraduate and graduate education, and in research and technology development. 2.) to build and enhance global networks and collaborative partnerships for a sustainable natural resources and environment. 3.) to respond to the needs of society through forestry extension services and technology transfer, and 4.) to develop world class forestry and environmental science professional and leaders responsible for a judicious management of tropical forest and other natural resources.

Objectives

1.) To provide the youth the appropriate forestry education and training in order to develop forestry leadership and consciousness within the minsupala region; 2.) To serve as an instrument for MSU in its task of integrating the cultural minorities into the body politic through sound investments in forestry education and other forestry programs of the university; and, 3.) To develop an adequate pool of able foresters and rangers who are essential to the manpower needs of the government and the wood-using insdustries.

About the Department

The Department of Environmental Studies was established in 1998 through BOR Resolution ___. The Department aims to 1) produce graduates needed in environmental protection, conservation, and management who can compete in the global market as well as contribute to the growth and development their communities; and 2) produce technically prepared manpower that are capable of undertaking research and development in environmental and other related problems. For over 25 years, the Department has established itself as an important institution in environmental education, research and extension in the province of Lanao del Sur. It has collaborated with various agencies for the promotion of environmental awareness and sustainability throughout the province and in the island of Mindanao as a whole. Recently, it has been awarded a Level 1 Accreditation by AACCUP.

The faculty members of the Department specializes in various fields of environmental studies including environmental toxicology, environmental biology, ecology, rural sociology, plant ecology and taxonomy, blue carbon research, natural resource development and management, sustainability studies, social forestry and extension and ethnobotany. 

They can provide technical assistance in biodiversity researches, ethnobotanical studies, EIA preparation, forest development and management plans, land-use planning, water quality assessments, and environmental awareness campaigns.

2nd Founding Anniversary ng PAESS

Sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon, nagsagawa ng in-person activity ang mga magaaral ng Agham Pangkaligiran para ipagdiwang ang 2nd Founding Anniversary ng PAESS. Nagtipon-tipon ang mga miyembro mula Environmental Science Society – Bulsu, MINSU Environmental Science Society, BS Environmental Science – MSU Marawi Campus, TUP Green Society, UPLB Environmental Science Society at Young Vanguards of The Environment -UNP at sila ay umikot sa mga environmental landmarks sa ka-Maynilaan. Nagbahagi din sila ng mga kwento kung bakit napili nila ang kursong Agham Pangkaligiran, ang kanilang individual environmental advocacies at evidence-based solutions para sa napili nilang environmental problems. Bago matapos ang araw ay dumaan sila sa campus ng Technological University of the Philippines Manila, ang nagiisang unibersidad sa Maynila nag offer ng BS Environmental Science.
