About The Department

The Department of Home Economics offers a Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) and a Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education. This is in response to the rising needs of the K-12 curriculum, especially in Grades 4 to Grade 8. Thus, the programs aim to develop highly competent and motivated teachers in technical and vocational in their area of specialization which anchors to the Vision and Mission of the Mindanao State University-Marawi Campus, the Goals of the College of Education, and the objectives of its department where it belongs, Home Economics Department.

BTLEd

The Bachelor of Technical and Livelihood Education major in Home Economics is a higher education degree program that aims to develop highly competent and motivated teachers in technical and livelihood education in their area of specialization. It is composed of 178 units from the prescribed new General Education courses by CHED, required elective courses, and other mandated courses. 

BTVTEd

The Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (BTVTEd) Major in Food and Service Management is a higher education degree program that aims to develop highly competent and motivated teachers in technical and vocational education in their area of specialization. It is composed of 173 units from the prescribed new General Education courses by CHED required elective courses and other mandated courses.

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯
College of Education Home Economics Department joins the International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE) in commemorating World Home Economics Day 2023 on March 28-30, with the theme “2023: Waste Literacy”. This year’s theme centers around the goal of achieving a sustainable future through education on waste reduction and sustainable consumption. It also highlights the fundamental role that home economics experts play in creating solution-based research, education, and/or community outreach programs in responsibly managing resources at the household and consumer levels.
This three-day program is jam-packed with activities like fire prevention simulation, women’s month celebration, a research forum, and will cap with an iftar outreach in celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

The Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) is only a few hours away! As takers from all over the country do their last-minute preparations and as they enter the exam venues, let us take a moment to offer prayers and send well wishes to them as they brave yet another milestone in their professional journey.
Manifesting victory to all our takers! In the words of Stephen Covey “begin with the end in mind,” may you trudge on the hurdles and scream deafening glory in the licensure exams. You got this, future LPTs!

A Quick Reminisce!

The first three colleges of the University were first formally organized in the academic year 1962-1963; As the Univesity progresses, the College of Liberal Arts was split into two colleges namely: the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities; College of Community Development and Public Administration now the College of Public Affairs and the College of Education.

On the 59th Commencement Exercises of the Mindanao State University – Marawi, Ms. Noraya P. Abdul from the Department of Home Economics, was proclaimed as the University Class Salutatorian and as the College Valedictorian.
