About The Department

The Department of Information Sciences is an academic department under the College of Information and Computing Sciences, and it is headed by Prof. Joseph C. Sieras, who is currently the Chairperson of the Department. This department is composed of two (2) program courses, namely, the Bachelor of Science in Information Sciences and the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, with two (2) majors, the database track and the network track.

The Department of Information Sciences focuses on the study and application of technology in managing and processing information. It typically encompasses a range of disciplines related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems and technologies.

The primary objective of the Department of Information Sciences is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to design, develop, manage, and secure information systems and technologies. It covers areas such as computer programming, network administration, database management, cybersecurity, software development, web development, systems analysis, and project management.

Students in the Department of Information Sciences learn about various technologies and their applications, including computer hardware and software, networking infrastructure, database systems, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics. They also study topics such as information security, IT governance, IT ethics, and IT project management.

Courses In The Department

BS Information Systems

Student who are interested in computer science, business, and information technology-and who want to explore the fascinating opportunities that are emerging where these areas overlap-should consider majoring in information systems (IS).

If you are passionate about utilizing technology for societal advancements that are both economic and humanistic, the IS program is the ideal fit for you.

 

BS Information Technology (Database)

This program aims to provide knowledge in areas such as designing, developing, and implementing software and databases.

They can become proficient in programming, developing and operating a database, as well as manipulating stored information, SQL, NoSQL, R Programming, Data mining and data warehousing, database security and inf0rmation engineering.

 

BS Information Technology (Network)

This program focuses on understanding the fundamentals of computer technology, including network design, installation, analysis, and maintenance. Students will be able to learn internet services, design LAN or WAN systems, enable network security, and work with wireless networks.

They will be proficient in switching and routing, wireless and mobile computing, VoIP technology, they can also learn some ethical hacking known as white hat hack.

Pre-Admission Screening for Incoming Freshmen
1st Semester, Academic Year 2024-2025
 
The Department of Information Sciences (DIS) is conducting a pre-admission screening for prospective freshmen applying to the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) and Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) programs.
 
Eligibility:
1. Applicants must be a baccalaureate passer.
2. A minimum SASE score of 70 is required.
 
Required Documents:
1. SASE Result
2. Senior High School Grade Card
 
Important Date: The results of the pre-admission screening will be posted in the department on July 22, 2024.
