Sining Pananadem

Supplementing and reinforcing the efforts of the Darangan Cultural Troupe and the Sining Kambayoka, the Sining Pananadem, an all-Maranao group, had its debut before a very receptive audience in 1989. This company of performance was conferred official recognition through BOR Resolution No. 139, series of 1989. The Sining Pananadem has taken on the mission to wrest from oblivion the centuries-old cultural treasure includes autochthonous songs, rituals, customs, chants and instrumental music. The amassed materials are interpreted for stage performances.

The Sining Pananadem’s arrival on the theatrical is far from fortuitous, and its appellation – the Maranao for nostalgia – is most apt. The rich folk/cultural trove of the Maranaos is threatened with extinction. The return of Muslim scholars from their studies in the Middle East, with their introduction of new insights and interpretation of the Islam faith, has started some socio-cultural convulsions. The Cultural Revolution in the making has found some traditional rituals, practices, beliefs and values contrary to Islamic principles, if not detrimental to development.

The Sining Pananadem embarks on a crusade to save the threatened rich cultural heritage of the Maranaos from being consigned to limbo.
