Mindanao State University (MSU)-Main Campus was recognized as the top-performing taxpaying Lanao del Sur Government Agency (GA) in 2024. This recognition came during the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Office No. 102’s launch of its 2025 tax campaign, “Buwis na Tapat, Tagumpay Nating Lahat,” held at the MSU International Convention Center, Marawi City, on February 25, 2025. MSU’s contribution of ₱152,706,122.66 to revenue collection significantly exceeded expectations, showcasing exemplary fiscal management and support for national development. This achievement sets a high standard for other GAs in Lanao del Sur. Marawi City also received recognition as the top-performing taxpaying Local Government Unit in the province, with a revenue collection of ₱8,073,699.47. According to the report by Hanifah P. Rahim, Chief of the Collection Section, the total revenue collected in 2024 was ₱990,791,685.88, representing a 3.24% increase compared to 2023.
Revenue District Officer Schnieder L. Bagul emphasized the importance of accurate and timely tax payments in her opening remarks, highlighting the positive impact of the previous year’s tax collection on national development. Jonainah G. Usman-Calaca, Chief of the Assessment Section, unveiled the official 2025 BIR campaign logo, incorporating elements symbolizing love for the country, tax collectors (BIR), development through correct tax payment, and the BIR and Bagong Pilipinas logos.
The event featured AVPs (“Tungo sa Matagumpay na 2025” and “Ang Bagong Pilipino at ang Pagbabayad ng Buwis”) and video messages from several dignitaries, including Marawi City Mayor, Atty. Majul U. Gandamra and Country Director for BIMP-EAGA-BARMM and CEO-President of Soti Fuel Group of Company, Hon. Abdul Rashid “Elian” R. Macala.
MSU System President Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno also expressed gratitude to the BIR and encouraged taxpayers through his pre-recorded video. Participants including MSU officials and employees and representatives from LGUs and NGAs expressed their support for the BIR tax campaign through a pledge of support led by the Chief of the Compliance Section, Esmayaten M. Lucman Jr., and by signing the Pledge of Support banner. The closing remarks were delivered by Sittie Aquilah M. Dipatuan, Chief of the Client Support Section.
The successful launch underscores the vital role of taxes in funding government services and national progress. MSU’s exceptional performance exemplifies the positive impact of responsible tax compliance. The BIR Revenue District Office No. 102 remains committed to providing efficient tax services. With the approval of Presidential Decree No. 486, S. 2024, declaring the Month of February of every Year as Tax Awareness Month, MSU continues its support for BIR taxpaying awareness initiatives.
