The first MSU-Marawi Basic Education Summit commenced today, July 22, 2024, at the International Convention Center, MSU-Main Campus. This two-day summit, themed “Cultivating Excellence: Inspiring Change, Embracing Progress in MSU Basic Education,” brings together officials, campus administrators, and educators from various MSU campuses and external units.
The summit aims to usher in a transformative shift by introducing and integrating the MATATAG Curriculum across MSU-Marawi’s basic units. This initiative empowers administrators and educators with the knowledge and skills to deliver innovative teaching and holistic learning experiences tailored to the MSU community’s needs.
The program began with a procession of delegates, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Amerkhan G.Cabaro, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. He urged the participants to make the summit a springboard for shaping the future of basic education in the MSU community.
MSU System *, Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, delivered an informative and inspirational message. He identified challenges in basic education and offered strategies for addressing them. He also emphasized the vital role of basic education in the students’ learning journey and the educators’ role in education reforms.
The keynote speaker is Director General for Basic Education of MBHTE-BARMM, Hon. Abdullah P. Salik, Jr. As an educator, development agent, and civil servant, Hon. Salik is expected to inspire the participants to foster quality education that is responsive to the needs of the students through the MATATAG Curriculum.
The core of the summit features a comprehensive program of presentations, workshops, and discussions focused on various aspects of the MATATAG Curriculum. This includes ensuring educators have a deep understanding of the curriculum’s structure and philosophy (Comprehensive Curriculum Mastery) to promote clarity and cohesion in its implementation, and enhancing instructional strategies by introducing advanced techniques that promote critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, all essential for the MATATAG Curriculum. The summit also emphasizes skillful lesson planning, equipping participants with the tools and knowledge to design impactful lesson plans that leverage the MATATAG Curriculum’s full potential. Major discussions are planned on the instructional framework for deploying the MATATAG Curriculum (Implementation Framework), addressing practical implementation challenges and solutions, and establishing benchmarks for curriculum performance to ensure consistent application across all classes and subjects. In addition, the summit fosters community building and supportive networks among participants for sharing resources, insights, and encouragement. This aims to cultivate strong partnerships between educators, the broader school community, and external stakeholders to enhance the educational infrastructure and support for the curriculum’s success.
In addition to the presentations and workshops, a productive meeting between key stakeholders was held. This meeting included University officials, Basic Education heads, and MBHTE Director General Hon. Abdullah P. Salik Jr. The focus of the discussion was collaborative strategies for improving educational outcomes.
By emphasizing collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the MSU-Marawi Basic Education Summit 2024 is laying the groundwork for a transformative educational experience for the participants. The summit’s focus on building a supportive network and fostering partnerships underscores its commitment to ensuring the MATATAG Curriculum’s successful implementation and long-term impact.
