Mindanao State University–Main Campus once again took the spotlight as three of its exceptional students received prestigious awards at the PCO Community Campus Caravan Awarding Ceremony held on October 25, 2024, at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City. The event honored talented young communicators as part of the Presidential Communications Office’s (PCO) 82nd Anniversary celebration and October’s Communications Month, with the theme “Nagkakaisang Tinig Tungo sa Bagong Pilipinas”.

Raheema Hafsa Pangarungan, a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy graduate, claimed the top spot in both the Spoken Word Poetry and Filmmaking contests in regional categories. Her achievements extended to the national level, where she achieved 2nd place in both the Filmmaking and Essay Writing competitions. To further highlight the students’ accomplishments, Rayhannah Gampong secured 1st place in the regional category of Essay Writing contest. Followed by Pangarungan in 2nd place, and Neil Mike Mira, a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Major in Extension Education, in 3rd place. All three of them comprised the student publication namely the Mindanao Varsitarian.

This year’s theme emphasized the importance of unity while it also served as a platform for combating misinformation and disinformation across educational institutions. The PCO Campus Caravan travels to universities and colleges nationwide, providing activities such as creative contests including Spoken Word Poetry, Songwriting, Essay Writing, Mural Painting, and Filmmaking, workshops, and interactive sessions designed to engage students in discussions about media literacy, public information, and social responsibility.

Each award consisted of a plaque, a gift certificate, and a certificate of recognition. These recent achievements illustrated the depth of talents within MSU–Main Campus, with participants making significant contributions to creative expression and public communication reinforcing the university’s commitment to nurturing young advocates to not just shape their future but also contribute meaningfully to their communities. #ProudMSUans
