Dr. Pilapil is a faculty of the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (CFAS) since June 2007 up to the present. Her fields of specialization include fish processing, postharvest technology, food microbiology and safety. Since 2010 to 2011, then 2013 to 2017, she was the chairperson of the Fisheries Department of the College.
She finished her undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science in Fisheries in 2007 at Mindanao State University – Marawi Campus as Summa Cum Laude and College Service Awardee. In 2013, she completed her Master’s degree in Food Technology from the University of Gent and Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. She resumed teaching in the College until 2017. The next year, 2018, she pursued her Doctoral degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Her PhD dissertation was on evaluating bacterial surrogates for the pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes, for high pressure processing (HPP) technology. During her doctor’s degree program, she also got the opportunity to work as a service lab assistant in her department where she assisted in performing routine microbiological analyses (general microbiology, food screening, acidified food testing, water analysis, shelf-life studies, pathogen testing, etc.) relevant to food industries. Currently, she is a member of the College and MSU Marawi Campus Curriculum Committee. Her published work include Chemical quality assessment of traditional salt-fermented shrimp paste from Northern Mindanao, Philippines. She is still in the process of writing her other research works to be published.
