“When you have a dream, you’ve got to grab it and never let go.”
Arimonde B. Bumbung, a 59-year-old resident of Bacolod-Kalawi, Lanao del Sur, Philippines, enjoys sound health and a strong sense of community. Widely known as Edmund, he was born on September 15, 1963, in Bacolod-Kalawi. Arimonde is the second son of the late Datu Bumbung R. Sultan, a former municipal mayor appointed by the late Datu Mandangan Dimakuta Al-hadj, former Provincial Governor of Lanao, during the Japanese Government’s adoption from 1951 to 1954. His mother, the late Bae Babai T. Dalug, hails from Bacolod-Kalawi and Ditsaan-Ramain, belonging to the Royal family of the late Sultan Mamosaca Macatanong, former Sultan of Bayabao, Dit-saan – Raimain, Lanao del Sur.
In 1990, Arimonde married Hja. Omniah T. Mohammad, also from Bacolod-Kalawi. Omniah, a former overseas Filipino worker, served as a head nurse at Saudi Airline Hospital in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The couple feels blessed by Allah, as they are proud parents of four daughters, each pursuing different fields of specialization at Mindanao State University, Main Campus, and Akic Foundation.
Arimonde’s educational journey includes the completion of a two-year terminal course in Forestry Technology at Mindanao State University in 1981. He later pursued his studies at Pacasum College, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (AB-POL-SCI). Notably, Arimonde was among the scholars of the National Reconciliation Development Program (NRDP), a special scholarship granted by the Philippine Government to rebel returnees who embraced the path of law in the early 1980s.
Expressing gratitude for his achievements and the blessings bestowed upon him by Allah, Arimonde also ventured into public service. He was elected as Barangay Chairman in Brgy. Bubong, Bacolod-Kalawi, in 2002, serving three consecutive terms until 2010. Arimonde’s leadership performance in local governance reflects years of progress and development in the barangay. Presently, he dedicates his skills and expertise to MSU, Main Campus, where he serves as an office staff at the UBO/Finance Division Office. Arimonde hopes that his remaining years will exemplify a model of faith in Islam and peace, inspiring his family and others around him.
