Fema M. Abamo, PhD, is a BS Biology graduate of MSU Marawi in 1991 as Cum Laude. She obtained her MS in Biology at UP Diliman Quezon City in 2000 and her PhD in Biology at Yamaguchi University, Yoshiada Campus, Japan in 2008. She is a recipient of the Monbukagakusho Scholarship for Doctoral Program in Japan and DOST-PCASTRD Scholarship for MS Program at UP, Diliman.
Her notable funded researches include protozoan ciliate as bioindicators of organic pollution in Lake Lanao by NRCP, determination of genotoxic hazard levels in the post-siege Marawi and Lake Lanao by PCHRD-DOST, Ylang-Ylang and Citronella Essential oils by LGU-Iligan City, and recently an Inter-Regional Network through One-Health Approach to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance, a program funded by PCHRD-DOST.
She is the Chair of the Research Management Committee and Technical Review Board of the BARMM Health Research and Development Consortium; a Certified Biosafety Officer under the National Training Center for Biosafety and Biosecurity; an Associate Member of NRCP Division V, and a lifetime member of the Federation of Institutions in Marine and Freshwater Sciences.
She is a researcher and a teacher; her fields of expertise include symbiosis, molecular biology, ciliate protozoology, and monoclonal antibody production. Since 1991, she is a faculty member of the Department of Biology, CNSM, and presently the Director of Research, Mamitua Saber Research Center (MSRC), MSU Marawi Campus.
