Biography

           Omayyah T. Amer-Tarathingan has a track record of successful teaching profession and Islamic educational background. She has been teaching both Islamic values and studies of all ages for more than a couple of decades. She grew up in a family and Egyptian friends who inspired her to take on tutoring and mentoring roles as early as fifteen years of age. During her High School days, she was given the privilege to handle   basic Arabic lessons as an elective subject for the group of High School Students who were   not able to join the YDT (Youth Development Training) subject. She was awarded as most dedicated student leadership awardee due to her volunteerism in mentoring her co-students and friends while maintaining her own academic status as a consistent first rank student from elementary up to secondary level.

            Omayyah was admitted at Mindanao State University, Marawi City as Cultural Community Grantee being the top4 participant of the College Bound Program of the Mindanao State University, Marawi City where she enrolled as BS Biology student and eventually shifted to the Islamic Studies Department of   King Faisal Center for Islamic Arabic and Asian Studies and majored Islamic Studies. Her passion in mentoring Arabic lessons made her known to some faculty and staff not only in her College but also to some faculty and staff from the College of Education of the same University. She also served her College as one of the student leaders in her entire days in the Center, which connected her to   other University student services fostering camaraderie with Muslims and Non -Muslim students inside the campus.

              Omayyah’s determination and faith as Muslima had strong positive impact on her academic performance thus, she had enjoyed her Full Scholarship and successfully finished her baccalaureate degree, Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies on time.

               After graduation, Omayyah joined the faculty force of the Pre-University Center as Values Education Instructor and later served the Center as Secretary years after years. The Launching of the Senior High Schools nationwide brought her a new phase of an academic endeavor. She was given the opportunity to continue serving the University as an Instructor through the Islamic Studies Department of King Faisal Center for Islamic Arabic and Asian Studies.

                In addition to her responsibility as faculty, she is one of the partners of the University in pursuing its extension program agenda to provide assistance to the internally displaced persons (IDP’s) by conducting series of lectures on Arabic Literacy, Psychosocial Extension Activities and other related programs of the University.

                 Her fortitude and dedication in the academe persuaded her Dean the pursuit of higher academic education until she received her Masters Degree, Master of Arts in Islamic Studies major in Muslim Law and currently taking her Doctoral studies, Ph.D. in Philippine Studies at Graduate Studies of College of Social Sciences and Humanities of this University.
