Prof. Warren G. Caneos joined the College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences faculty force in July 2009. He then took and topped the Fisheries Technologist Licensure Exam the following year. Later, from June 2012 to April 2014, he served as Chairman of the Aquaculture Department and as College Secretary the next academic year. In 2016, he was awarded the Belgian federal government’s VLIR-UOS Scholarship to pursue an interuniversity master’s program in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management in Free University of Brussels, Ghent University and University of Antwerp in Belgium, where he finished as Cum Laude in 2018. He co-authored a scientific paper for poster presentation at an International Conference on CO2 Highs and Lows held in Azores, Portugal, that same year. He was appointed as the College Internationalization Representative of the MSU-International Affairs and Linkages Office the following year upon his return to MSU-Marawi. That same year, his thesis supervisor presented his master’s thesis at the World Aquaculture Society Conference in Louisiana, USA, winning the Best Abstract Quality Award. Additionally, he co-authored and published a scholarly study in Elsevier’s Journal of Aquatic Toxicology, a SCOPUS-indexed journal.
He was a former Special Assistant to the Innovation and Technology Support Office, a subunit of the Technology and Innovation Center under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension and Development; also, a former member of the Technology and Innovation Center’s Intellectual Property Development Team (IPDT), MIPO Assessment Team (MAT), the College’s Internationalization Representative and Fisheries Department Chairman.
He was also granted for a 2-month Pre-Doctoral Visit at the Freshwater Biology Laboratory of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences by Global Minds programme of VLIR-UOS. Currently, he is a Joint PhD in Biology student at Hasselt University, Hasselt, Belgium and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, Philippines. He is working on his dissertation entitled “Taxonomy, Ecology and Evolution of Ostracods (Crustacea) from ancient Lake Lanao, Philippines”.
