Entrepreneurship Training and Promotion Office (ETPO) is the flagship unit of the MSU Main Campus that promotes entrepreneurship and innovation in the academe and assists the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Lanao del Sur to spur economic growth and inclusive development. It is one of the sub-offices of the Technology and Innovation Center (TIC) under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Extension, and Development (OVCRED).
The Entrepreneurship Training and Promotion Office aspires to be a world class entrepreneurship and innovation hub supporting the MSMEs of Lanao del Sur and assisting MSU Main Campus to be an entrepreneurial university.

The SUC Fair 2024, held from July 9, 2024 to July 11, 2024 in Zamboanga City, concluded successfully with vibrant participation from students, faculty, and staff from various state universities and colleges. This year’s theme, “Weaving Culture and Innovation for a Transformative, Resilient, and Globally Recognized Philippine Higher Education,” set the stage for a series of engaging and competitive activities.
MSU Main Campus Delegation
The delegation from Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus, headed by Dr. Maria Stella G. Codas, Chief of the Entrepreneurship Training and Promotion Office, consisted of six faculty members/staff and twenty student delegates. They departed at 5 AM on July 7, 2024, and returned on the night of July 12, 2024.
With the support of the MSU System President, Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, the delegates actively participated in multiple events, showcasing their talents and innovations.
Event Participation
Belleza: The Search for Mr. and Ms. SUC Fair 2024
The Search for Mr. and Ms. SUC Fair 2024 was the highlight of the event, with representatives from various SUCs across different regions participating. This year, MSU Main Campus had two pairs of representatives: Mr. Abubacar Ismael S. Punag from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy, and Ms. Shri Tahanie B. Macaumbao from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities represented the MSU System, while Mr. Jamsed Gampong and Ms. Marziyah Channa I. Abinal, both from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, represented BARMM.
These participants were well-prepared, having trained extensively for their walks and the question-and-answer portion. We were elated to hear the emcee announce their names among the top five. Ultimately, Ms. Shri Tahanie Macaumbao from the MSU System secured the 2nd runner-up position, showcasing her grace and talent. Ms. Marziyah Channa I. Abinal from BARMM achieved the 1st runner-up title, demonstrating her elegance and charm.
Additionally, Abdul Careb D. Abedin III, a proud student from MSU Main Campus, won the pageant last year and gracefully did his farewell walk as Mr. SUC Fair 2023, further adding to the university’s pride.
Colors of Mindanao: Tiktok Competition
In a vibrant celebration of Mindanao’s rich cultural tapestry, students from the MSU Main Campus showcased their creativity and talent in the TikTok Competition held at the SUC Fair 2024, themed “Colors of Mindanao.” This event served as a dynamic platform for various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to highlight the region’s diverse cultures and traditions through engaging short-form videos.
The competition aimed not only to encourage artistic expression but also to foster a sense of community and collaboration among participants from different SUCs. Featuring the original composition “Colors of Mindanao” by Prof. Amyra S. Mohammad, the event inspired MSU Main Campus students such as Ronald M. Sayson, Sittie Aisha M. Mocsana, Sittie Nayliyah N. Ansary, Mohammad Fayeez A. Gampong, and Mari Anthony Jahleel B. Antonio to creatively interpret and celebrate the diversity of Mindanao’s cultural and natural heritage.
The winning performance by MSU System participants stood out not only for its technical skill and artistic flair but also for its heartfelt portrayal of Mindanao’s essence. Their videos resonated with the spirit of innovation and pride, reflecting a deep connection to their roots and a commitment to sharing their cultural identity with a broader audience. Through their compelling entry, they effectively achieved the competition’s goals: celebrating, educating, and inspiring appreciation for Mindanao’s rich and diverse heritage, among the SUC community and beyond.
Voz: Quintet Vocal Competition
The Quintet Vocal Competition, held on July 9, 2024, at KCC Mall de Zamboanga, featured outstanding talent from students representing various SUCs. Participants from MSU Main Campus, specifically from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the College of Business Administration and Accountancy, highlighted the university community’s diverse musical abilities. Coached by Prof. Jerryk C. Alico, Nathañyl S. Pabalate, Nemia Ginne B. Ido, Omar S. Gaga Jr., Hanna Kaye L. Pardillo, and Othman M. Daromimbang, delivered a compelling performance of “Bagani,” an emotionally resonant composition by Roel Rostata. This song, renowned for its heartfelt lyrics and dynamic melody, provided an ideal platform for the vocalists to showcase their harmonious blend and individual talents.
Mi Casita: Booth Exhibit
From July 9-11, 2024, an exposition of academic and creative endeavors unfolded at KCC Mall de Zamboanga. The event showcased the rich diversity and innovation of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across different regions through various exhibits and presentations.
Prof. Rashdi M. Casim, Assistant Dean and Faculty of the College of Agriculture, captivated attendees with an exhibit featuring Palapa Paste and Palapa Powder. These traditional Mindanaoan condiments, renowned for their aromatic blend of spices, highlighted both cultural heritage and culinary innovation.
Engr. Acsara A. Gumal, Ph.D., Director of the Ceramics Development Center and Manager of Fab Lab Marawi, was represented by his staff who showcased an array of ceramic products meticulously crafted at Fab Lab Marawi. From intricate designs to functional pieces, each item underscored the center’s commitment to integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.
A standout at the event was the display by Prof. Intesar T. Aba-Conding, Assistant Dean of the MSU-Integrated Laboratory School. Their newly launched book series, titled “Arabic Root,” drew significant acclaim. This educational series aims to enhance Arabic language proficiency. It received commendation from CHED Chairperson Dr. J. Prospero ‘Popoy’ E. De Vera III, affirming its importance in promoting linguistic and cultural literacy.
Pintar: Poster Painting Contest
On July 10, 2024, the Poster Painting Contest was held at Western Mindanao State University, gathering talented artists from various institutions. Among the participants was Jersa Baclaan, a dedicated and skilled student from the College of Business Administration, proudly representing the MSU System.
The day began early, with contestants arriving at the venue at 7 AM. Each artist brought a variety of materials, including paints and brushes, and set up their workspaces with care and precision. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as the artists prepared to showcase their creativity and skill.
The contestants focused intently on their work, transforming blank canvases into vibrant and expressive pieces of art. By 2:30 PM, the artists had completed their posters. The finished works were then displayed at KCC Mall de Zamboanga.
InnoVAR: Research Pitching Competition
The Research Pitching Competition at KCC Mall de Zamboanga’s vibrant Atrium underscored a commitment to sustainability and innovation. Ms. Shri Tahanie Macaumbao, a student participant, presented “Green by Design,” focusing on transforming environmental practices through sustainable, plant-based products. Her compelling presentation outlined how these initiatives could create an eco-friendlier future with tangible benefits for communities.
In the faculty category, Prof. Rashdi M. Casim brought his years of expertise to the stage with his research on Palapa Powder. This innovative use of locally sourced ingredients not only promised to enhance culinary experiences but also aimed to promote agricultural sustainability by employing traditional ingredients in novel and impactful ways.
Lente: Photography Competition
The Artistic Photography Competition at the SUC Fair 2024 showcased the diverse talents and perspectives of participants, capturing moments from the opening parade to the crowning of Mr. and Ms. SUC Fair. Among the talented photographers representing the MSU System was Xandryl Saycon, a student from the College of Information and Computing Sciences.
The competition provided a platform for students like Xandryl Saycon to demonstrate their passion for photography and contribute to the visual narrative of the event. Overall, the competition added an enriching dimension to SUC Fair 2024, highlighting the power of photography in capturing moments, emotions, and the essence of community and cultural diversity.
The SUC Fair 2024 was a significant success, showcasing the diverse talents and innovations of the participants from the MSU Main Campus. The event highlighted the importance of weaving culture and innovation to foster a transformative, resilient, and globally recognized Philippine higher education system. The active involvement and commendable performances of the MSU delegates across various competitions were a testament to their dedication and excellence.

MSU Entrepreneurship Development Team (MEDT) is a constituted committee comprising of MSU faculty and staff who will assist the Entrepreneurship Training and Promotion Office in establishing college-based enterprises, provide technical support to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in MSU and Lanao del Sur, and promote a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation in the university.
