The SUC Fair 2024, held from July 9, 2024 to July 11, 2024 in Zamboanga City, concluded successfully with vibrant participation from students, faculty, and staff from various state universities and colleges. This year’s theme, “Weaving Culture and Innovation for a Transformative, Resilient, and Globally Recognized Philippine Higher Education,” set the stage for a series of engaging and competitive activities.

MSU Main Campus Delegation

The delegation from Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus, headed by Dr. Maria Stella G. Codas, Chief of the Entrepreneurship Training and Promotion Office, consisted of six faculty members/staff and twenty student delegates. They departed at 5 AM on July 7, 2024, and returned on the night of July 12, 2024.

With the support of the MSU System President, Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, the delegates actively participated in multiple events, showcasing their talents and innovations.

Event Participation

Belleza: The Search for Mr. and Ms. SUC Fair 2024

The Search for Mr. and Ms. SUC Fair 2024 was the highlight of the event, with representatives from various SUCs across different regions participating. This year, MSU Main Campus had two pairs of representatives: Mr. Abubacar Ismael S. Punag from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy, and Ms. Shri Tahanie B. Macaumbao from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities represented the MSU System, while Mr. Jamsed Gampong and Ms. Marziyah Channa I. Abinal, both from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, represented BARMM.

These participants were well-prepared, having trained extensively for their walks and the question-and-answer portion. We were elated to hear the emcee announce their names among the top five. Ultimately, Ms. Shri Tahanie Macaumbao from the MSU System secured the 2nd runner-up position, showcasing her grace and talent. Ms. Marziyah Channa I. Abinal from BARMM achieved the 1st runner-up title, demonstrating her elegance and charm.

Additionally, Abdul Careb D. Abedin III, a proud student from MSU Main Campus, won the pageant last year and gracefully did his farewell walk as Mr. SUC Fair 2023, further adding to the university’s pride.

Colors of Mindanao: Tiktok Competition

In a vibrant celebration of Mindanao’s rich cultural tapestry, students from the MSU Main Campus showcased their creativity and talent in the TikTok Competition held at the SUC Fair 2024, themed “Colors of Mindanao.” This event served as a dynamic platform for various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to highlight the region’s diverse cultures and traditions through engaging short-form videos.

The competition aimed not only to encourage artistic expression but also to foster a sense of community and collaboration among participants from different SUCs. Featuring the original composition “Colors of Mindanao” by Prof. Amyra S. Mohammad, the event inspired MSU Main Campus students such as Ronald M. Sayson, Sittie Aisha M. Mocsana, Sittie Nayliyah N.
